Could
you love me like my dog?
Could you always think I look great, no matter what I
have on? |
|
How
much bed space do you have?
There is a formula for figuring out how bed space is
allocated. It is called the "Foot Rule". You
start by determining the total number of feet (as in
those at the end of the legs, not the kind made up by
inches). Then you divide that total by the number of
feet belonging to the person(s) or dog(s) in question.
This is how it works: You share your bed with 1 dog. You
have 2 feet and the dog has 4 feet. That is a total of 6
feet. The dog has 4 out of 6 feet or 66%, therefore, the
dogs get 66% of
the bed. You could work this in reverse as well. You
have 2 out of 6 feet or 33% so you get 33% and the dog
gets 66%.
Now I have 10 dogs that sleep with me. At 4 feet per
dog, that is 40 feet. Add to that my 2 feet and we have
a total of 42 feet in the bed. I have 2 out of 42 feet
which is 1/21 or 4.7% of the bed. The dogs, since they
share a total of 40 of 42 feet, get 20/21ths or 95.3% of
the bed. Simple isn't it?!
Once I figured out my percent of the bed space, the next
step was to work out the exact area that I am entitled
to. My bed is a California King which is approximately 6
ft x 7 ft.
Here is the math:
6 ft x 7 ft = 42 square feet
42 square feet = 6048 square inches
4.7% of 6048 = 284 square inches
284 square inches = 23.6 total inches
23.6 inches = 1.11 total feet
In order to determine the exact size of my bed space, I
needed to know the percentage of length to width - this
comes out to 54% long to 46% wide. When I apply these
percentages to my spot:
284 square inches x 54% = 153 square inches
284 square inches x 46% = 130 square inches
153 square inches = 12.75 inches
253 square inches = 21.1 inches
12.75 inches = 1.7 feet
21.1 inches = 1.9 feet
Now that the math is all done, the figures show that the
dimensions of my part of the bed are 1.7 feet by 1.9
feet or in other words:
I GET THE EXTRA SMALL PILLOW!!! |

Banana
Honey Cake:
2 cups water
2 bananas
1/8 teaspoon vanilla
3 cups whole wheat flour
1/2 tablespoon baking powder
1 egg
2 tablespoon of honey
Preheat oven to 350. In a bowl combine water, bananas,
vanilla, egg and honey. Then add whole wheat flour and
baking powder. Mix well. Pour mixture into a 8-inch cake
pan sprayed with a nonstick spray. Bake for 1 hour to 1
hour 15 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center
comes out dry.
Cinnamon Frosting:
In a mixer, combine the following:
12 ounces non-fat cream cheese (room temperature)
3 teaspoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon honey
You can pipe different designs on top by using the carob
frosting for color contrast
To make carob frosting, replace cinnamon with the same
amount of carob powder

Liver
Brownies:
3 cups of liver (fresh beef)
1 cup of chicken hearts
2 eggs
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of Lecithin (from soy) make sure it's
granulated or powdered
1 tablespoon (approximately 6-8 caplets) of Glucosamine
(optional)
3/4 cup of ground flax seed meal (from health food
store-you can also use whole seeds but I would recommend
the ground)
Put all ingredients except flax seed in food processor
(or blender) and puree for about 2 minutes, slowly add
the flax seed. The mixture will be like cake batter.
Spread evenly in an un-greased cookie sheet with sides
or shallow cake pan , it should be about 1/4 inch thick.
Bake for about 15-20 minutes or until moist but springy
to the touch in a 325 degree oven. Cool and cut into 1
1/2" x 1/1/2" squares. You really don't need
to worry about how to store or how long because they
wont last! But I would recommend putting them in the
fridge, and you can freeze them and just take them out
to thaw as needed.
Note: DO NOT use gizzards as a replacement for the
chicken hearts. It will destroy your food
processor! |

| Carrot
Liver Cake:
1 Box Betty
Crocker Carrot cake mix
1 Cup fresh beef liver (pureed)
1 Package Cream Cheese (room temperature)
Follow the
directions for baking the cake as the box directs. Then
mix in one cup of puree fresh beef liver and bake as
usual. The fresh (raw) beef liver will not affect the
rising of the cake at all and the bake time is the same.
Allow baked cake to cool, then frost the cake using the
cream cheese. |
| Beef
Fat Ball Treats:
1 Pound fresh
ground beef
1
egg
1 Cup Total Cereal
1/2 Cup
Molasses
1 tablespoon of garlic powder
1 tablespoon of Lecithin (from soy) granulated or
powdered
1 tablespoon (approximately 6-8 caplets) of Glucosamine
(optional)
Grapeseed or Peanut Oil (or other high temp cooking oil)
Mix all of
the above ingredients together except oil. Put oil in
large skillet, and heat on medium. While pan is
heating, shape mix into small balls. Once oil is
hot, place balls into pan and fry as you would regular
meatballs. Allow to cool, and place in a covered
container in refrigerator. These also freeze
well. |

In
Remembrance…

Aubrey Ford,
a long time member of the BTCP has passed away. He and his
wife, H. Beverly Ford, own Flying Ford Boston's in Central
Point. Aubrey not only loved Boston's, but was an
accomplished horseman as well. He also wrote poetry and
music, and made the Boston figures we used for class
placements at many of our Specialty shows. His best known
Boston was Am/Can Ch. Bo-Jamer of Elbo's Rudy, who is the
sire of Int. Am/Can Ch. Flying Ford's Ranger. Aubrey will be
greatly missed by all.
Our heartfelt condolences go out to Beverly and family. |

Expo Center Bench Show…
During the Portland Kennel Club show, breed clubs
wishing to distribute information regarding their breed
can reserve a table for that purpose. Anyone willing to
donate their time at this information booth should
contact Margaret Roser before November 15th. |
Puppy
Match??
We would like to put on a BTCP Puppy Match/Fun Match,
but need some input from the members. Generally these
events are what help generate the club revenue. The club
invites members to bring your homemade projects,
memorabilia, Boston Terrier items, or non-Boston Terrier
items to sell at this Fun Match. This is a great time to
show off your puppy, your artistic abilities, (clear out
your closet?) and make a little money for members and
help the BTCP (a percentage of all sales goes to the
club). The puppy classes offered would be:
Puppy 4-6
month
Puppy 6-9
month
Puppy 9-12
month
Anyone interested in pursuing this adventure is asked
to contact Margaret Roser. |

Stolen
Boston's
(Courtesy
of Harriet Kolias)
Nine Boston
Terrier's were stolen approximately 2 weeks ago. This
includes both puppies and adults, but I'm not sure how
many of each. The culprits will not be able to provide
the registration papers on any of them. If anyone is
inquiring in response to advertising, be sure to see
evidence of registration and pedigrees, or ask to see
other proof of ownership.
If you are
suspicious of a seller, please contact your local
authorities. |
